Research Interests
My current research is focused on the
evolution of alpha satellite DNA sequence in the human chromosomes. We
developed a set of computational techniques to discover new higher
order repeat arrays in human, chimp, orangutan, macaque whole genome
shotgun sequences. Prior to this study no higher order repeat arrays
were known except for human. Through this further classification, and
selecting representative sequences from Great Apes, and Old World and
New World monkey sequences, we aim to build phylogenetic trees that
will help us understand the underlying mechanism for alpha-satellite
sequence evolution. Other than this project I'm interested in:
- RNA-RNA interactions
- RNA secondary structure motif discovery
- Structural variations in the human genome
